I had cancer, cancer never had me: A spirit to live with!

Every single day in one's life  is worth celebrating. Not with drinks, cakes and music or stuff like that, but as a new day that has let you stay alive. Even if anyone is living life to the fullest, in the above stated manner, there is one word that can make one forget life: CANCER.

We keep falling sick, but one unusual symptom and we get tensed. The most hilarious part is that we start googling what that symptom could indicate. Sad enough, the google leads most of it to cancer and then we realize that it can’t be that bad and we go and see the doctor. There is always the fear of dying in pain if a person is diagnosed with cancer. The biggest warrior against cancer is the will to live and happiness which is well forgotten post diagnosis.

It isn’t just one disease, there are several types; some are age oriented while some are not. Cancer is basically spread through infected cells at an alarmingly rate. What segregates different cancer types is their way of spreading across the body. Often a lump in some part of our body can be mistaken to cancer, but it can be a tumor in reality. The difference between tumor and cancer is their rate of spreading and life span. Cancer cells are malignant while tumors are not. Cancer cells can start growing at one place take over the entire body while tumor stays at a single place and grows.

Cancer is treatable with proper treatment. There are several stages of cancer and every stage  of every kind has a different way of treating it. Chemotherapy and radiations are the integral elements of treating cancer. Chemotherapy is used to kill the cells using drugs while radiation treatment is something similar to the x-ray.
Cancer can happen to anyone though a person with a history runs a higher risk. One could always work towards preventing it. Smoking or passive smoking, excessive drinking, lack of hygiene, malnourishment; all of it can sum up to it. Going the anti way for all these, make up for good preventive measures while staying happy and positive just doubles up the immunity.

About 8,06,000 cases of cancer exists in India alone. Globally, every 1 out of 6 person is a cancer patient. It is the second leading cause of death in America after heart ailments. There are various factors which lead to cancer; unsafe sex (anal, vaginal, oral), obesity, malnourishment, excessive alcohol and tobacco, drugs and many more. The proverb, ‘prevention is better than cure’ hold's true even today. Limiting oneself to two drinks a day, quitting smoking, exercising, maintaining a regular and balanced diet, avoiding industrial toxins, avoiding too much of sunlight are a few good precautions.
There is no shame in getting oneself tested once in a while for cancer and STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases). It just boosts your confidence by saying that you are absolutely healthy.  Even if you are diagnosed, its very important to remember to stay happy and cheerful. Cancer is capable of treatment if diagnosed at a early stage and given good treatment.

Endorphins, a hormone secreted when you are happy and laughing acts as the trigger for the body to respond to the treatment rendered.

As a cancer patient, one is expected to never stop having hope and faith in oneself. Thomas Alva Edison had thus said, “When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this: You haven't.
